Cant get past Create a Sim

Hi, I've installed sims 2 on windows 10 by disk. No issues running the game runs really smooth, better than when I used to play on older pcs but when I enter a town and try to create a family the game goes to the loading screen and then nothing happens. Can anyone please help me?? Thanks
