Sims 2 - Directx 9 errors (Please help me troubleshoot)

Hi, thanks for reading this post.

I have installed the Origin Sims 2 Ultimate Collection and I'm having issues getting the game to even start. I would absolutely love to play the sims 2 as it has been so long, I've even considered buying an older PC just to run it, but that would be the absolute last option.

The Problem:

I have added my graphics card (GeForce GT 710) to both Video Cards.SGR (CSConfig&Config folders), and tried running the game as an admin, and in windowed mode (-w).

I notice that I get two different error messages depending on whether I run in windowed mode, or full screen mode.

When I run Sims2EP9 in windowed mode, I receive an error "Direct3D returned an error: D3DERR_DEVICELOST! The application will now terminate.". I have tried searching the error message but I can't find the error specific to the Sims 2.

When I run Sims2EP9 in full screen mode, I receive the "Failed to find any DirectX 9.0c compatible graphics adapters in this system!". Obviously I'm a little confused because I've added the graphics card to the SGR files.

I have also tried putting the d3d9.dll into the TSBin, but that restarts my entire computer when I open the sims 2 for some reason, so I don't have it in the TSBin for now.

I will also attach the config-log, and dxdiag.

BODYSHOP Purple!!! help

Hello Everybody,

I am out of ideas and I'm starting to get a headache with making my bodyshop working.

I have the sims 2 UC installed on my new Windows 10 pro computer that i bought specially for movie making with sims 2 matters.

Since yesterday I've been trying to get my game to work and eventually i finnaly got trough! by looking at god knows how many threads tutorials and programs and stuff over the internet...

Annyway when i tried to open bodyshop from my latest EP (M&G) it wouldnt open, no chance at all ! It would crash before the loading window could come up.

I then thought maybe i should patch bodyshop with the 4GB patch, and miraculously It did help and loaded completly without crashing. :bunny:

Now new problem is this:

I really don't know what to edit what to change anymore... Something tells me, I'm sure the problem is in the graphic rules file but I dont know what to change in order to get the purple pink away from bodyshop.

Please I beg you, wonderful wizards of Modthesims! Please rescue :cry:

Hey fellow simmers!

I have installed Sims 2 from disc (including all ep, but did download all stuff packs because I am OCD and NEED the complete experence Tongue

) and I get this error that I know have been such a killer for tons of simmers.

"Failed to enumerate any DirectX 9 compatible graphics adapters in this system! Please make sure you have a DirectX 9 compatible graphics adapter and have installed lastest manufacturer provided driver. The application will now terminate..." Damn if that isn't annoying Angry

I do not know how much info you need of my computer but I will go ahead and put this down because why the hell not: AMD Radeon R2 Grahpics, HP, Windows 10.

I have tried a bunch of stuff that I seen on google and all had failed! But, yeah, help would be cool and hope you all are safe and staying healthy!

Eek! It looks like Michelle has a bit of a bloodthirsty side! Tongue

Being a benevolent Sim God, I myself never was big on killing Sims, and I especially never had the heart for drowning them, starving them out or employing any other form of prolonged demise guaranteed to wrench on my heartstrings as the poor, hapless, suffering Sim wails and cries and thrashes and wets their pants and whatnot. Fortunately, there are quite a few other means of doing them in (and many of them are far swifter and more merciful than drowning or starvation), particularly once you get into the world of Custom Content! Yay! Big Grin

Fun Ways to Kill Your Sims #1: The Running with Scissors Playset

Where Do You Get It? Originally? The bygone Sims 2 website. Now? Try this Dropbox link.
What Does It Cost? 20 Simoleons.
Can You Stop the Reaper? Yes.

The good news? You only need one Sim to make it work (though naturally, you'll need two or more active Sims if you plan on stopping the Reaper and saving your reckless Sim from death's door). The bad news? Be ready to use the scissors over and over and over and over before death finally results; just watch for the dumb Sim jumping up and doing the "fright" animation. And be prepared for the slight annoyance of every Sim in the room stopping to watch your Sim running around with a rather large, bladed implement in hand.

Fun Ways to Kill Your Sims #2: SimWardrobe's Crate of Throwing Axes

How Much? 300 Simoleons
Can You Stop the Reaper? Yes.

So you need two Sims to pull this off: The doomed Sim and the Sim throwing the axe at that doomed Sim. Your little Simmy executioner picks a Sim from the crate's radial menu, grabs a Bon Voyage axe out of the crate, hunts that Sim down, throws the axe and buries it in his or her forehead. Ow.

Fortunately (because murderous intent apparently doesn't exist on Sim Earth), there won't be any hard feelings between the axe-chucking Sim and the Sim who stopped the axe in a particularly unpleasant way. So feel free to be contrary and save the Sim that you just put down. It's all fun and games until someone picks the wrong skeletal hand of Death Incarnate, right? Tongue

Fun Ways to Kill Your Sims #3: SimWardrobe's Stink Ray

Where Do You Get It? Same place as the throwing axes.
How Much? 777 Simoleons. (Frankly, the axes are cheaper and just as effective.)
Can You Stop the Reaper? Yes.

My first time using the Stink Ray was a bit of a surprise, because unlike with the crate of axes, the description has no "This object will kill Sims!" warning. So imagine my befuddlement when two dormies in my Tinkering hobby dorm got a nasty, interminable feud going on, with the mini-camera popping into existence to alert me to their brawls every two minutes...very annoying, so I had my active college Sim use the stink ray on one of the feuding parties, thinking that his Hygiene would hit rock bottom and compel him to bumble off in search of a badly needed shower, thus putting a pause on that obnoxious feud. He drew a lot of flies, all right...enough that the flies ate him alive! So his headstone is sitting outside the dorm now, and since nobody liked him and hardly anyone knew him, it looks like he won't be resurrected anytime soon.

Total Dud #1: Vampire Coffin Scares

Where Do You Get It? It comes with the game, mate...Night Life, to be exact!
How Much? About a thousand for the coffin, and an eternally young, sunlight-evading existence for the vampire.
Can You Stop the Reaper? If the coffin scare kills by fright, then I'd assume so. But I have yet to see such a death happen.

The problem with this supposed means of death is that the only time when a vampire will pop up and scare someone peeking into his or her coffin is if that vampire's Energy motive is close to full...say, over 75%, give or take. If the vampire has less Energy than that threshold, then the vampire will continue to slumber as the intruding Sim trepidatiously lifts the lid, steals a peek and closes the lid again. And if your vampire has 100% Energy, then the vampire vacates the coffin and there goes any chance of coffin scares. Nobody wants to peek into an empty coffin, right?

So there's actually a very small window in which you can invite the vampire's dolorous scorn, and unless the probing Sim's motives are already near rock bottom, then the vampire will wake up completely and get out of the coffin before the fright from multiple vampire-inflicted jump scares can take a fatal toll. I originally thought that death by vampire scares would have the advantage of being more controllable and less perilous for would-be Simmy rescuers than death by ghost scares (since you can call off a playable vampire and maybe even get that vampire to intercept the Reaper; no such luck with ghosts, though). But that ghost might have ten or twelve Simmy hours to scare a Sim to death, while a vampire might only have one hour, if even that.

So death by coffin scare seems to be more trouble than it's worth. Pass this one by, unless you just enjoy watching the cute animations of an annoyed vampire trying to get some dadgummed shut-eye. Big Grin

Hello,
I seem to be really unlucky with playing Sims 2 on my laptops. First I tried to get the resolution options to work on my older one where graphics rules maker didn't work, tried everything, nothing helped. Now I had to upgrade to a newer laptop and still - it's never fixed with anything I try. Huh

Basically, I had directx issues but I fixed those by putting my game in window mode but now the only available resolution is 320x200. Shadows and smooth edges options are greyed out. I'll post the log file here. Any help would be very appreciated.

(I have to run the game as admin, otherwise it doesn't work, and I forced it to be run with Nvidia since I have an Inter card as well.)

Hi Folks,
another one here with the downloaded version of the ultimate collection from origin.
Every time I go to open (have tried all compatibility options) it says no directx 9.0c graphics card found.
I can get the game working in windowed mode but can't get it full screen.

Please help! I'm not very savvy at creating my own graphics cards etc - have tried but no luck

This doesn't seem like something that had been attempted before (at least, not from what I can find). So I installed a 64-bit version of Windows 7 in a VirtualBox 6.0.18 virtual machine. I gave the virtual machine two CPU cores, 6014MB base memory (RAM), 256MB video memory, VBoxSVGA graphics controller with both 2D and 3D acceleration, 128GB of storage, and VirtualBox Guest Additions. While installing VirtualBox Guest Additions, I opted to install the Oracle VM VirtualBox WDDM Driver and not the Basic Direct3D support (see manual). Given this, the game should have had sufficient resources to run, not with stellar performance (this is a virtual machine, after all), but at least acceptably. DxDiag reports that the system has 383MB of display and dedicated memory, though it has 0MB of shared memory (not sure if that makes a difference).

Installation of the game went without a hitch (I did not install Ultimate Collection; I installed Double Deluxe, then all of the EPs, then the SPs), and installed all of the patches. I ran Sims Graphics Rules Maker and it appeared to have successfully updated the relevant config files; however, it failed to add the VirtualBox driver to the Video Cards.sgr file, even when prompted (no error message would appear; clicking on "Add now..." simply did nothing).

The game started up with no issues (no errors about DirectX issues or any of that), and was able to successfully initialize Pleasantview. However, I was greeted with the unsightly "flashing pink" issue.

When I loaded the Pleasant family lot, all of the wall textures flashed red.

The flashing pink issue was resolved by adding boolProp UseShaders false to the userStartup.cheat file. However, the game's graphics settings are still stuck at their lowest values, with no way to increase them (resolution is stuck at 800x600, for example).

According to -config-log.txt, the game isn't recognizing VirtualBox's graphics adapter and flags it as "NOT FOUND IN DATABASE!", is only using 32MB of texture memory, softwareDeviceLocalVideoMemorySize is set to 33554432, and activeDeviceUseSoftwareRasterizer is set to true. I attempted to add the adapter to Video Cards.sgr myself by adding the following to the bottom of the file:

...trying to force the game to recognize VirtualBox's adapter and force it to use 383MB of texture memory. However, none of these changes worked, and the game continued to run in software rasterization mode, with the lowest graphics settings chosen, and the game runs sluggishly.

Hi.
So I will try to make it as simple as I can so it doesnt sound so confusing. I used to play The sims 2 four years back with ALL EPs installed and IKEA Home stuff, Mansion&Garden, Kitchen and bath Interior Design and H&M stuff packs installed as well. I had LOTS of CC- and I never encountered any sort of lagg, game crash or anything. Everything worked great.

This year I re-installed The sims 2 with the same EPs and SPs that i had installed previously and also i added the SAME CC folder to my DOWNLOADS- (i added nothing new)

But this time I am having this issue, whenever i am buying clothes for my sims, just 3 mins into browsing the clothes, my game says "The application has crashed. The application will now terminate"

I also scanned my Downloads using Delphy Organiser program. I deleted all broken files, orphans and duplicates. But still the game crashes
I also tried the "4gb patch" method - but still no luck or maybe I am just doing it wrong??? because its soooo confusing
Anyway, back to the point now. I just noticed that my config folder says that my video card is not found on database.

good evening, sorry for my bad english. I am a French girl. I wanted to install the ultimate collection of sims 2, but despite all my attempts, the game crashed just after choosing a city. I have my graphics card in the video card file, I tried to add the 4 GB patch. I downloaded the graphics rules maker but the game crashes even before arriving in town. Can you help me please ? Bodyshop Crashes When Loading

Hi, I have The Sims 2 Ultimate Collection, and whenever I try to open body shop, in this case the Mansion & Garden version, the program will open up, load about one-third of the bar, and then the application will crash.

I know I was able to get it to open before through some trial and error. But it seems like no matter what I do now I always get the same result, it crashses. I've tried running the program as an administrator along with trying various different compatible settings but nothing helps. I've also tried deleting the cache files in the Sims 2 folder but that doesn't help either.

I'm currently running Windows 10.

hello! i was hoping i could get help today regarding lag in my sims 2 game. usually it doesnt lag on small lots but on big lots it can drop from 60 to 10 in an instant, im wondering if this is normal? i have a pretty great gpu and cpu so i'm wondering what the problem is, it's also worth noting that my config file in my logs folder lists the wrong graphics card, so i took the graphics card it listed out of the video cards list, even after i did that it runs the same and doesn't list my correct graphics card even though i have it listed in the video cards list, any help would be greatly appreciated!! Blush
